April 6 - 9

This week's lesson is on rhythm.  Remember, the tempo has a steady beat, so when you are chanting or singing, you want to be aware of that beat and the tempo (how fast/slow).  The rhythm is what you do with the notes and words in the music.

To help practice rhythm, let's use the "Funky Chicken" game.  The following are the words to the game.  See if you can chant them at a slow tempo (largo) and then a fast tempo (allegro) keeping that steady beat and words in rhythm.

"Funky Chicken"

Do the funky chicken now, what's that you say, you say?
Do the funky chicken now, what's that you say?

Do the funky chicken now, what's that you say, you say?
Do the funky chicken now, what's that you say?  (Call out a color of one of the cups.)

Ooo, ah, ah, ah!  Ooo, ah, ah, ah!  Ooo, ah ah ah !  Ooo, what you say now?
Ooo, ah, ah, ah!  Ooo, ah, ah, ah!  Ooo, ah ah ah !  Ooo, what you say grab?  (Pass the cup to the right keeping with the beat).

Hup, hup, hup, two, three, four,
Hup, hup, hup, 2, 3, STOP!

I have recorded my family and myself playing the game.  Watch it to refresh your memory, and then have fun teaching this game to your mom, dad, brothers, and sisters.  Once everyone has the hang of it, play around the with tempo...see how slowly you can do it and how fast you can go!

Take a look at my family and then have fun with yours!
